Success Stories

Sharon Renshaw

I was laid off from my job as an Account Manager for a chiropractic office after working there for five years.  I did job searches on my own for over a month and found that almost every job wanted a certificate in your field of expertise, especially computer applications.  I knew I needed to go back to school to acquire these skills and brush up on my medical classes.

While attending Martinez Adult Education, I took computer courses, like Word, Excel, and Publisher and every medical class available.  Then I took the medical coding prep class that prepared me for the five hour national certification test as a professional coder.  I successfully passed the test on September 27, 2008 on the first attempt.

Now I'm employed at Martinez Adult Education doing my dream jobteaching.  Not only am I doing the detailed paperwork that I enjoy, I'm able to empower students in the Math and Office Skills classes to obtain the skills they need for their occupations and employment tests.

I truly believe that I was in a difficult situation where I had to change and where the reward for this change was far greater than I ever dared to hope.
