Program Certificates

Office Assistant This 25-week certificate program prepares you for an entry-level position in a general office environment. Enhance your computer literacy in word processing and document preparation classes. Prepare for success on pre-employment tests by sharpening your math and English abilities. In addition, Customer Service and Workplace Skills prepare you for getting and keeping a job.  Learn these software programs: Windows XP/Vista and Word.

Administrative Assistant This 30-week certificate program will give you the skills needed to handle a wide variety of duties that are crucial to the business office environment. You will gain computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and file management. Written and oral communication is emphasized as well as the development of accuracy and attention to detail.  Learn these software programs: Windows XP/Vista, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

Executive Administrative Assistant This comprehensive 40-week certificate program will give you the skills needed to effectively initiate and complete high-level specialized administrative activities. You will gain computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, file management, and desktop publishing. Written and oral communication is emphasized as well as the development of accuracy and attention to detail, Customer service and job development capabilities prepare you to excel in the workplace.  Learn these sofware programs: Windows XP/Vista, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Access.

Courses

FormattingWith Word 2007-Ever need to generate a business letter, an interoffice memorandum, or a multi-page report and didn't know where to begin- or how to end? Today employees are expected to create and proofread their own documents. Formatting with Word provides a step-by-step, comprehensive understanding of the various formatting styles used in today's business world. By joining this class students not only learn formatting, but also ge acquainted with MicroSoft Word concepts. Prerequisites: 30 wpm with 5 or less errors in a 5-minute timing.

Keyboarding-Master the keyboarding skills to meet the demand for prompt and accurate keyboarding since it is the single most important element of office skills. Learn proper techniques to attain keyboarding competency. Beginning students use a keyboarding program that consists of a tutorial, reinforcement activities, and educational games; advanced students improve speed and accuracy with computerized drills. Receive a speed certificate for a timed typing test over 30 net words a minute with 3 or fewer errors in a 5-minute timing.

Organizational Skills-Discover the benefits of being organized by learning time management skills to take control and get the most out of your day; get organized at work by applying helpful ideas and strategies and be efficient by setting up and maintaining your files and records.

Spelling-Do yhou depend on spell check? Take a diagnostic test to pinpoint weak areas in spelling (especially those spelling terrors!) word choice (is it "council" or "counsel"?), and hyphenation. Watch your written communication improve as you learn basic spelling rules and word development.

Business English-Review grammar usage; learn about different kinds of sentences and how to capitalize and punctuate them, and much more! An understanding of Basic English will help you communicate throughout your life-at school, at home, and on the job. Develop writing skills in an open-entry, self-paced environment.

Proofreading-A person who is an effective communicator must possess good proofreading ability. Develop a critical eye toward your written world in the areas of accuracy grammar, punctuation, word and number usage, and capitalization. Learn to edit using accepted revision marks. An open-entry course to prepare you for multi-level postions. Prerequisite: Completion of Business English.
